News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Feb. 16, 2018: A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit southern and central Mexico on Friday evening, damaging buildings and shocking local residents.

The epicenter of the earthquake was eight kilometers to the northeast of Pinotepa Nacional, southern state of Oaxaca, reported the National Seismological Service of Mexico.

It is said that the tremor was felt in the Mexico City, which was 350 kilometers away from the epicenter.

Authorities have activated emergency plans responding to the earthquake, confirmed Miguel Angel Mancera, Mayor of the Mexico City.

The earthquake was felt in states including Oaxaca, Guerrero, Puebla, Colima and Jalisco, said the National Seismological Service. (Source: CCTV)
