Pelosi Says No To Michael Jackson Honor

CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Fri. July 10, 2009: Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has shut down a resolution honoring the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Lawmakers are free to use House speeches `to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish,` said Pelosi, D-Calif. `I don`t think it`s necessary for us to have a resolution.`

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said she sponsored the resolution because the singer is `an American legend` and he donated millions throughout his life time.

Pelosi`s remarks come on the heels of Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who posted a video on YouTube calling Michael Jackson a `pervert` and a `lowlife,` and pledged to do all he could to block the resolution.

When members of the Congressional Black Caucus held a moment of silence in the House after Jackson died June 25, some lawmakers walked out of the chamber.

Jackson was acquitted in 2005 of charges that he molested a 13-year-old boy.

Jackson Lee, however, said she will seek support from colleagues who thanked her when she introduced the measure June 26, one day after Michael Jackson died. She said honorary resolutions don`t often `pass the next day.`

Congressional resolutions have been introduced in the past to honor Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra among others. Jackson was the greatest entertainer of all time and made the Guinness Book of World records for King of Charity, as well.

He also holds the record for Most Successful Concert Series, Biggest Selling Album Of All Time, Most Grammy Awards, Largest Contracts, Greatest Audience, Highest-Paid Commercial Spokesperson and the Bad Tour.

MJ also sold over 100 million singles and albums outside of the U.S. and was the first person in the 37 year history of the chart to enter at # 1, with his single `You Are Not Alone.`

Jackson`s `The Making Of Thriller` is the biggest selling video to be released by an artist while he also grabbed Most #1 Hits by Male Artist.

In 1983 Michael became the first artist to simultaneously hold the number one spots on Billboard`s rock albums and rock singles charts, as well as the R&B albums and singles charts.
